Conference: The Role and Functions of the Parole Board

15th – 16th September 2006

The Centre for Public Law invites you to a conference co-hosted by the Parole Board for England and Wales entitled "The Role and Functions of the Parole Board – Perceptions of Fairness".

This conference will:

  • bring together leading speakers from a wide variety of disciplines to explore the changing role of the Parole Board
  • explore key issues in predicting risk and decision-making
  • focus on the growing number of recalled prisoners and of those subject to indeterminate sentences
  • contribute to a principled and influential debate on the evolving role of the Parole Board

The Centre for Public Law

The Centre for Public Law was established in 1996 in the Faculty of Law to provide a focus for research in all aspects of Public Law in the University of Cambridge. As such the Centre has held many conferences and seminars contributing to cutting edge debates on Public Law. The Centre’s patron is Clifford Chance LLP.

Parole Board Logo The Parole Board

The Parole Board is the independent body that protects the public by making risk assessments about prisoners to decide who may safely be released into the community and who must remain in or be returned to custody.

The conference organisers are very grateful to the British Academy for their support with the conference.
